Injury to Swiss star rules the team out of Danube Island adventure
Anouk Vergé-Dépré will not compete at the A1 Major Vienna presented by Swatch next week.
The Swiss star took part in last week’s European Championships with younger sister Zoe, as a back injury, sustained at the Swatch Major Gstaad, ruled out Anouk’s regular partner Joana Heidrich.
However, the sister act will not travel to the Austrian capital for the final Major of the season. Twelve months ago, Anouk and Joana finished ninth in Vienna at the World Championships.
Following the team’s withdrawn from the tournament, Spain’s top women’s team, Elsa Baquerizo and Liliana Fernandez, have moved from the qualification phase and into the main draw.
Meanwhile, injury has also put paid to the chances of new German duo Lars Flüggen and Nils Ehlers. The new constellation had hoped to debut on the Danube Island but Flüggen has not recovered from a broken finger. Their withdrawal leaves three German men’s teams in the qualification phase.
