A1 Major Vienna presented by Swatch gold medalists Anders Mol and Christian Sørum’s rise to the summit of the beach volleyball world continued on Monday morning as the victorious Vikings had one last ride on top of Vienna’s Riesenrad Ferris wheel.

Two months ago the new superstars of the sand began their golden run of form by conquering Vienna’s most iconic landmark alongside Clemens Doppler and Alex Horst for an astonishing photoshoot that was seen by millions around the world.

Ever since they came down from the high of playing volleyball 65 meters in the sky, the Scandinavians have continued their meteoric rise, winning three tournaments including the Gstaad Major and the European Championships before their glorious golden moment on the Danube Island on Sunday.

And we knew exactly what to do with the red-hot duo to round off their magical last three weeks – one last ride on the Riesenrad to toast their latest triumph.

“We knew that not too many people in Vienna knew who we were before the Riesenrad shoot, so we felt we had to do well to justify us going on it!” Anders told us as he and Christian revisited the scene of Serve the Sky.

The new world number ones also admitted they came close to missing their first trip to Vienna.

“We were right in the middle of an important training camp,” explained Anders. “It was a tough decision to make but it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and we’re so grateful to have been able to do it. It’s something we will never forget.”

Christian added: “It’s the perfect ending to a perfect story. We never thought at the start of the season that this would happen. First silver in Itapema and then being on the Riesenrad, it’s incredible. To then win three tournaments – two of them Majors – is just crazy.”

Congratulations again boys – and see you in Hamburg!
