German girls doing their thing
Whisper it quietly but three German women’s teams have marched into the second elimination round of the A1 Major Klagenfurt with some brilliant beach volleyball.
On Austrian soil, Germany’s best were in unstoppable form as Ludwig/Walkenhorst, Borger/Büthe and Laboureur/Sude all topped their pools to book a place in the last 16 which begins on a fantastic Friday tomorrow.
Time certainly flies when you’re having fun – and the same can be said for three Olympic-bound teams: Polish pair Brzostek/Kolosinska, Zumkehr/Heidrich of Switzerland and Bawden/Clancy of Australia will all chase a place in the quarterfinals when they next set foot on the sand on Friday.
Agatha/Barbara and Larissa/Talita might not be here in Carinthia this week but the samba beat is still banging big time! Fernanda/Josi and Juliana/Taiana Lima both stormed to the top of their pools to guarantee a place in the last 16 to sustain Brazil’s challenge for gold.
Sadly, it wasn’t such a sweet success story for the home nation as all three of Austria’s women’s teams failed to make the elimination rounds.
The first elimination round of the A1 Major Klagenfurt gets under way this afternoon with the pick of the matches arguably American wildcards Claes/Hughes’ clash against up-and-coming Swiss stars Hüberli/Betschart.
