Unreal performance from tournament’s youngest team!
How’s this for a checklist?
First tournament together
Won five games out of five
Silenced Austrian crowd on Center Court
Beat Copacabana-bound Russians
Stunned Brazilian 12th seeds
Not bad, huh?
And guess what? That is a list of achievements of Norwegian youngsters Anders Bernsten Mol, 19, and Christian Sørum, 20 – the youngest team at the A1 Major Klagenfurt!
Their incredible exploits have got them through two rounds of qualification and now they’re straight into the last 16 – not bad for their first ever tournament together as a partnership.
“We didn’t expect anything but everything after qualifying for the main draw is a bonus,” said Anders, smiling from ear to ear after their win over Austrians Kunert/Dressler. “It’s unreal.
“To do this in our first tournament is sick! We’re playing with so much confidence. There’s no pressure on us, we’re just playing for fun now and we’ll try and play good volleyball.”
They are now just one match away from a sensational place in the quarterfinals. So which of their beach volleyball heroes would they like to take on in the knockout phase?
“We want to play Brouwer/Meeuwsen!” shouted Anders. “They’re such a great team, they play power volleyball. Maybe I even get a chance to block them!”
Center Court was crammed first thing on Friday as the beach fans basked in the morning sunshine – and the Norwegians were more than happy to silence the Austrians!
“With so much noise it made us feel small – nobody was cheering for us!” said Anders. “We have just our coach cheering for us!
“But maybe now because we beat Austria we’ll get a few people shouting for us now.”
