Beach volleyball’s up-and-coming men are through to the quarterfinals
The next generation of beach volleyball stars are on fire in the heat of the A1 Major Klagenfurt!
Four teams under the age of 25 have hot-footed it into the quarterfinals with some truly sensational performances. Who says you need experience in this game? (well Ricardo, maybe).
Brazilians Guto/Saymon, both 22, made it through following the forfeit of Russian team Semenov/Krasilnikov on Friday night.
But when the action did get under way on a glorious Saturday morning the youthful exuberance shone through.
Remember we told you about the exploits of Norwegian youngsters Sørum/Mol? Yep, well the 20 and 21-year-olds are into the last eight! They stunned seasoned American pros Hyden/Bourne in a three-set cracker on court three.
Court three was also the scene for a victory for Polish pair Losiak/Bryl. Losiak, 24, is playing without his usual partner Piotr Kantor but up-and-coming Michal Bryl is only 21, and he displayed all of his skill as he and Losiak nailed down a quarterfinal spot with a win over Russians Barsouk/Liamin.
It wasn’t all doom and gloom for Russia though as 19 and 20-year-old pairing Stoyanovskiy/Yarzutkin saw off the challenge of the German team standing in the men’s competition, Erdmann/Windscheif on Center Court.
The future of beach volleyball is certainly in good hands! The quarterfinal action kicks off later this evening following the women’s final. Catch all the action live on our website and remember to download the A1 Beach App (in Austria) on IOS and Android!
See you later boys!
