Special Olympics 2017 finds a new friend in Klagenfurt

A new friendship was born on one of the biggest stages for sport in Austria – the A1 Major Klagenfurt embraced the idea of the Special Olympics 2017 and a team from the Fachhochschule Kufstein Tirol is currently in the capital of beach volleyball to bring a new and different spirit to the fans.

Between the 14th and the 25th March next year, the Special Olympics 2017 is going to host the World Winter Games in Graz, Schladming and Ramsau, and will have at its disposal the strongest platform to fulfil its goal of driving social change through sport.

Over 3,000 athletes from all around the globe will gather in Austria and prove once again without doubt that people with intellectual disabilities can be an inspiration for our society and become a ‘Heartbeat for the world’, as the slogan of the event states.

Even though the Games will be focused on the winter disciplines, sport is the common language here and the A1 Major Klagenfurt tells the story perfectly. That is why the FH Kufstein team had the chance to engage with passionate beach volleyball fans, meet the stars and introduce the Special Olympics into the spirit of this unique event. Now the students have done the talking – next March it will be the athletes’ turn.
