Rising stars from Brazil Guto/Saymon wowed the Center Court crowd to book their place in a first ever Swatch Major Series final with a stunning victory over Polish pair Losiak/Bryl.

The man of the moment was undoubtedly giant blocker Saymon, who made nine massive blocks – and that proved to be the difference as the thousands of happy beach fans lapped up a stunning performance from the young boys from Rio.

Both teams showed signs of nerves in an opening set – and who could blame them? It’s a semifinal at Klagenfurt! But while there were a few unforced errors there was plenty of captivating rallies to entertain the jam-packed Center Court on Sunday morning.

Spring-heeled Saymon showed his amazing ability by blocking twice in a row in the opening stages – and it would be his predatory instinct at the net that would prove to be the difference later in the set. After a mammoth period of sideout, the Brazilians took control. They won five points on the spin in a sensational end to the first set to go 1-0 up!

In the second set Saymon began to show his lethal skills at the net by continually blocking the path of the Poles. But while Losiak/Bryl, themselves only 24 and 21 years old, tried to stay with the 22-year-old Brazilians you always felt the samba boys had that little bit extra flair when it mattered.

And so it proved…and guess what? In what is turning out to be a familiar sight on the Center Court, Saymon leapt like a salmon at the net for the ninth and final time to seal victory with a trademark block to spark scenes of celebration…the Brazilians might not be in action on the Copacabana next week but they will take home a medal!
