Twelve months Anders Mol and Christian Sørum had just completed a unique double: a Gstaad cowbell gold swiftly followed by a historic European title – the youngest team to lift the CEV showpiece.
The Vikings then headed to Vienna. And won again.
Now, a year on from that win on the Danube Island, Anders and Christian are playing even better. With another golden cowbell in their pockets from the Swiss Alps, they return to the Austrian capital aiming for back-to-back Vienna Major gold medals.
With their red-hot form in mind – you can also throw in a World Championship bronze medal to their recent haul – our partners bet-at-home.com have made the Norwegians the 2.00 favorites to climb to the top of the podium.
Second favorites are Brazilians Evandro Gonçalves and Bruno Oscar Schmidt at odds of 6.00, while if you liked the way newly-crowned world champions, Oleg Stoyanovskiy and Viacheslav Krasilnikov of Russia played in Hamburg, you can back them to win in Vienna at odds of 7.50.
Espinho four-star winners Alison Cerutti and Alvaro Filho of Brazil are priced at 12.00 while home heroes Clemens Doppler and Alex Horst are available at a huge 25.00 to bring gold to Austria.
If bet-at-home.com believe the Vikings are the clear favorites for the men’s title then the women’s competition is wide open according to the prices, with three teams leading the market at odds of 5.00.
They include world champions Melissa Humana-Paredes and Sarah Pavan of Canada, Gstaad champions April Ross and Alix Klineman of the USA and Brazilians Ana Patricia and Rebecca Cavalcanti.
Three-time Olympic and world champion Kerri Walsh Jennings and her partner Brooke Sweat can be backed at odds of 12.00, while last year’s winners from the Czech Republic, Barbora Hermannová and Marketa Sluková, are as big as 15.00 to triumph.
If a home champion is your kind of thing, then Austria’s Katharina Schützenhöfer and Lena Plesiutschnig are 40.00 to reign the Danube Island and cause the mother of all parties. Hey, why not combine them with Doppler and Horst for some monstrous odds of 1000.00!
For all the odds check out bet-at-home.com, who will also have odds of every single match during the tournament.
