The Beach Volleyball World Tour’s first-ever event in Lithuania had first-time winners at the top of the podium as Estonians Kurti Nōlvak and Mart Tiisaar and Italians Margherita Bianchin and Claudia Scampoli secured the gold medals in Vilnius.
Nōlvak and Tiisaar, who have formed Estonia’s top team at the international level since they joined forces in 2016, gave their country its first gold medal since 2017 after they downed the home team of Robert Juchnevic and Artur Vasiljev 12-21, 22-20, 15-12 in the final.
Playing in just their four World Tour event together, Italians Alberto di Silvestre and Tobia Marchetto claimed bronze with a 23-21, 19-21, 16-14 triumph over Estonians Dimitriy Korotkov and Timo Lohmus.
In the women’s final, Bianchin and Scampoli reached the top of the podium in just their third tournament together as the Italians defeated Latvians Marta Ozolina and Luize Skrastina in the two-set (21-17, 21-11) gold medal match.
Chile won its first-ever women’s medal in the World Tour in Vilnius with the team of Franscisca Rivas and Chris Vorpahl downing Lithuania’s Ieva Dumbauskaite and Karole Virbickaite 21-19, 21-15 to take bronze.
This was the last World Tour event scheduled for 2020, but new tournaments may be added to the calendar in the future.
